Mary Sherlock
President
Mary Sherlock has been a resident of Kent County for 40 years. She graduated from LeMoyne College in Syracuse.N.Y. with a B.A. in history and a minor in business. Mary graduated from Delaware Law School in 1983 and has been a member of the Delaware Bar since 1983. After retiring from full-time law practice in 2020 Mary became a staff attorney for the Delaware House of Representatives. In addition to serving as Board President of Murphey School she is active with the American Association of University Women(“AAUW”) -Dover Branch and serves as a lector at Holy Cross Church. Mary is married, with 2 grown children and 5 grandchildren. Mary stated that serving on the Murphey School Board has been the most heartwarming and rewarding community service she has ever experienced.
Nancy Wagner
Vice President
Nancy Wagner was born in Raleigh, NC but has been a long time Delaware resident. She holds a B.S. Degree from Salem Collage in Winston Salem, NC and a Master’s Degree from Wilmington College in Wilmington, DE. Nancy taught High school English for 30 years at Dover High school and was a stay-at-home mom for 18 years. She has been very active in the Community and has held several positions including the Executive Director of Community Relations at Delaware State University, she was a State Representative for 16 years, representing North Dover, Che was the Chair of the Judiciary Committee, the Chair of the Education Committee, and a Member of the Joint Finance Committee.

Dan Rowles
Treasurer
Daniel W. Rowles, CFP is a founder and Managing Partner of Compass Investment Advisors, LLC. Dan entered the Financial Services industry 27 years ago after earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from the University of Delaware in 1996. Dan is an active member of the community. He is a member of the Dover Downtown Rotary Club, where he is a two-time past President, and has been on the Board of Directors for 13 years. Dan also volunteers his time as a Board member and Mentor at the Elizabeth W. Murphey School in Dover. Dan resides in Dover with his wife and two daughters.
Joan Engel
Joan Loewenstein Engel has been happily married to her husband for more than five decades. They are blessed with three wonderful daughters, Nora, Molly, and Lily, who were all born in Delaware, and five adorable grandchildren who are five years old and younger. Joan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Delaware and a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Delaware State University. She has always had a passion for teaching, and she has worked as an educator for 38 years in different places. Most of her career was spent teaching middle school students in the Capital School District, but she also had the opportunity to teach students with disabilities in Phoenix, Arizona and fifth graders in Elizabeth, New Jersey. After Joan retired from teaching, she decided to continue serving the community by running for the Capital School Board, where she was elected for a five-year term. This led her to join the Murphey School Board as well. Two of the things that Joan is most proud of is founding Senators in Action, an after-school club for middle school students that promotes community service and volunteerism and being on the start-up committee for Early College High School housed at Delaware State University. Today, Joan is an adjunct at Delaware State University (DSU) where she supervises student teachers. This position allows her to visit schools across the state, observe her fantastic students, and to keep current with the latest educational trends.
Sarah Patterson
Sarah Patterson is a CPA and Tax Manager at Faw Casson in Dover. She has lived in Dover for 27 years with her husband Greg and together they have three daughters. Sarah enjoys being active in the community and has volunteered for many organizations, including Read Aloud Delaware, The Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce, and First State Animal Shelter & SPCA and she served for 7 years on the Delaware Board of Accountancy. She is The Presbyterian Church of Dover’s representative on the Murphey Board.

Ted Henderson
Pastor Theodore A. Henderson (Ted) is a retired United States Air Force Chaplain. He received his ordination and ecclesiastical endorsement from the Church of Christ and currently serves as pastor emeritus of the Dover Christian Church, Dover, Delaware. Ted is married to Beverly and together they have 1 daughter and 2 sons. Ted spent his first two years of undergraduate studies at Merced Junior College where her received an Associate of Art degree. He transfered to Howard University on an athletic scholarship (football & track) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. In 1978, he completed a Master of Divinty degree. Immediately after retiring, Ted became involved in the Dover community and currently serves as the Chaplain of the Capital City Rotary. His previous service includes serving as the Capital City Rotary club President, Chaplain to the City of Dover, a past member of the Board of Directors of Central Delaware Y.M.C.A., past board member of the Habitat for Humanity along with numerous postitions.
